Improvilla in Manila

"Out to sample the improv course led by the American theater artist Ed Reggi of Missouri's Paper Slip Theater this week, I was ready for a few laughs and some insight into the new Filipino comedy of its participating troupes.

Guess again.

Improv turned out to be a discipline to catch life on the wing, surprising the self-conscious ego to drop its guard and enter the moment completely. The strange thing is how, when faithful to technique, this automatically provokes the kind of laughter that leaves a surprising and rewarding residue - a new sense of both self and community."

Check out the entire article written by Sylvia Mayuga, April Fools. The article tells how Ed Reggi effected this writer's perspective on comedy and theatre. Sylvia met Reggi during his recent tour of the Philippines.

= questions

Without a script players often look for one by asking QUESTIONS. Making bold statements during the story stop our pattern of QUESTIONS. Players need to accept everything is true and take a risk. QUESTIONS only delay, stall and negate relationships.
